Welcome to Akaiami Lodge on the uninhabited island of Akaiami in the beautiful Aitutaki Lagoon. Akaiami Lodge offers one hand-crafted lodge finished to immaculate taste. Our lodge can sleep up to six people, has a separate kitchen, hot-water shower and chef on request. You will find a quality double kayak, use of which is included in your daily rate. This is a unique opportunity to spend some time alongside one of the most exquisite beaches and swimming lagoons in the Cook Islands. Welcome to paradise ...
AKAIAMI island is the historical site where TEAL flying boats landed while plying the Coral Route through the South Pacific during the 1940's and 50's. TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited) became Air New Zealand, and the Coral Route remains, but no longer the flying boats. Located on one of Aitutaki's motus (islets), the land owners have been preparing for the past decade to restore the site. The Lodge has been rebuilt on the exact spot where the original terminal stood. Here the well-to-do of the fifties, including movie stars John Wayne, Cary Grant and the like, stopped for a few hours, or even overnight, while the planes were serviced or waiting for weather to clear.
You will be met by our staff at the Aitutaki airport after flying forty minutes north from Rarotonga. We will stop at one or more stores and advise you on your food and supply purchases.
Then, from our nearby dock on the main island, we ferry you fifteen minutes across the magnificent lagoon to AKAIAMI. All transfers on Aitutaki are inclusive in our pricing.
